About KenshoK9

KENSHOK9 LLC provides education and training for dog owners using the most current and progressive training methods. Generally, training is provided in clients’ homes. However, BAT sessions are conducted in enriching, natural and neutral environments, such as certain City parks. I am an advocate of using the least intrusive and minimally aversive (LIMA) strategies and techniques with an emphasis on rewards-based and force/fear-free training.

Kenshō (見性) is a Japanese term from Zen Buddhism. Ken means "seeing", shō means "nature, essence". It is usually translated as "seeing one's (true) nature", that is, the Buddha-nature or nature of mind. For me, kenshok9 means seeing the true nature of each individual canine companion.

It is easy to misinterpret a dog’s problematic behaviors as “naughty, stubborn, s/he should know better, …” My goal is to give you tools and skills to connect with your dog on a deeper level, meet their needs and enrich their lives and yours.

Owning a companion animal and being your dog’s guardian should bring you joy, decrease stress, and enhance overall well-being.

About the Trainer: Felicia Marohn, CBATI-KA

My name is Felicia Marohn. I am a Certified Behavior Adjustment Training Instructor - Knowledge Assessed (CBATI-KA) with the Grisha Stewart Academy of Dog Training & Behavior (GSA). I came to the world of dog training via the world of dog sports. Helping a dog excel in dog sports has made me a creative thinker, problem-solver and attuned listener. Additionally, for the past five years, I have been independently studying with Fenzi Dog Sports Academy (FDSA), a prestigious online dog training school. In addition to BAT Set-ups, I am experienced in puppy training, manners, basic and intermediate obedience, desensitization and classical/counter-conditioning, behavior modification, canine enrichment, Nosework, and Control Unleashed Pattern games.

From Summer of 2022 through Fall of 2023, I volunteered at our local animal shelter in their Nosework program and with the Behavior Staff. I have a strong foundation in the principles and application of behaviorism, because I am also an independently licensed clinical social worker and a DBT-Linehan Board of Certification, Certified Clinician™ with a background of nearly 30 years practicing mindfulness and meditation. As a clinical social worker, who has been working in private practice for more than a decade, I am uniquely positioned to also honor and work with the human end of the leash.

In my free time, I play, train and work with our dog LuLu, a six year old Berger Picard. LuLu likes to use her nose for scent work games, practices agility, does bike joring, canicross, Urban Parkour, and we are an active team with Wild West Mondioring Club. From 2018 - 2023, LuLu competed in Dock Diving with North American Diving Dogs (NADD). Over the course of her dock diving career, she held the title of National Champion in her breed four times (2019, 2020, 2022, 2023). LuLu is one of the few Picards who successfully competed in all three Dock Diving disciplines - distance jump, air retrieve and hydro dash. More recently, we added AKC FAST CAT to our list of fun activities to do together.

Kenshok9 LLC was inspired by the need to become the trainer our sensitive, at times challenging, and most wonderful LuLu needed. She has become our trusted BAT helper dog and one of the best companion animals a family can wish for: Ides of March Numinous LuLu Does Too BCAT ACT2 DSA DJ AS HDN CGC TKN 🐾.
